Nigeria to subject serious traffic offenders to psychological tests

Nigeria is gearing towards the implementation of a proposed psychological examination for serious traffic offenders in the country.

A head of the country’s road safety body, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi released guidelines for the tests on Tuesday adding that it will be implemented on July 1, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.

The psychological test will be conducted at a public medical facility and the cost borne by the offender, another official explained.

“The identified offences are use of phone while driving, route violation, traffic light violation, dangerous driving and overloading,” Public Education Officer Bizi Kazeem told the media.

He added that the driving licenses of the offenders will be withdrawn until after the examination.

Nigeria is one of the countries in Africa with the highest cases of road accidents caused by human error and violation of road traffic laws.
